Does neutrality exist?

Irsat Gercek

We were pure newborns who imposed no judgement. When we realized that we are beings in the cosmos it was maybe scary as we feel that we are just a small pebble in this infinite universe. Our parents, sisters, brothers and relatives. To many of us, the first connections we consciously made were extraordinary. The consciousness of the first instant that you realized you were a being and occupying a place in the earth, was maybe the first connection  disclosed with the physical world.

I am unsure whether we can mingle consciousness with memory. We can define consciousness in a very pure sense as  being aware of our own presence, who sets  foot on this planet earth. To me, that overlaps more with our physical being, not the one through which we made connections internally. In our conscious state, we acknowledge our being as capable of comprehending what is going on around us. Memory recalls our own existence which stores how we attain the meaning, and the way we perceive the phenomena around the world.

When I was a student, a variety of theoretical models were argued in my textbooks to disclose how memory works. Short-term memory, working memory, and long-term memory were main subjects that the researchers want to break down every piece of. Focusing on memory is crucial in many instances. Because we human beings may not be able to see how we are exposed to  events. To understand today's behaviour, we must consult our memory since it stores our own truth.

Research studies have revealed that premature babies in the womb can hear and react to what happens around them. This can be caricaturized as wide antennas that are open to receive information even when memory and consciousness are not fully operational. In the womb we hear music, witness stress and feel the joy of our mothers. Moreover, in there, we are exposed to our mothers’ food, so we perceive the outside world. Our mother’s habits are thought to be transmitted to us. Findings point out that our relationship with the outside world started before we are born, does that mean we could interpret these findings as  our first instances of judgments planting its seed in the womb? In other words, if there exists any given input like sounds or taste , that might somehow turn out to be a material for our judgment in the making.

The point here is how we are exposed to the outside world and what  the long-standing effects on us are. To understand this we apply a variety of methods. We delve into our basic instincts, intuitions, and tendencies with the support of various social disciplines. That said, humankind is neither a simple receiver of information nor a transmitter to dispatch it to another generation. No doubt researchers have mapped out basic theories to understand our memory and consciousness? Nonetheless they seem to be disconnected with our inner world, subjective experiences, and emotions. So large charts made up with countless arrows, rectangular boxes and circles might be somehow pointless in the way they try to give us a sense of  human complexities. Briefly, the capability of the baby in the womb gives us something to take up. We assume that the consciousness of a baby in the womb is operational, that means their sense organs can partially be intact and functional before being born. In fact, how those external worlds and inputs have affected babies can be examined thoroughly. Any given input is being preceded in our own imagination, uniqueness and how we want to give them meaning. The upcoming pure input,   be it a nice song or a striking phrase from a book, might perhaps emerge in a different meaning and form in our understanding.
